National Governing Bodies

Welsh language operational plans have been created to ‘mainstream’ the Welsh language into the development activities of the following sporting National Governing Bodies (NGB’s);

  • Rugby
  • Football (FAW Trust)
  • Netball
  • Hockey
  • Swimming
  • Sailing
  • Canoeing
  • Table Tennis
  • Golf (Golf Development Wales)
  • Squash (2008)

Work with NGB’s centres around identifying Welsh speaking coaches, members and volunteers, and deploying this workforce in areas of identified need, established from their data collection on current levels of Welsh language activity taking place within their sport.

Key to this has been the development of bilingual coaching resources and membership, volunteering and coaching course application forms which asked candidates to rate their language skills.

More and more NGB’s are now recognising the benefit of developing their sports using the Welsh language and it is anticipated that more NGB’s will join the programme in the future.

So far the following bilingual resources have been created in order for NGB’s to deliver a bilingual coach/volunteer education programme;
