MAX BOYCE THRILLED WITH GRANT FOR OUTSIDE-HALF FACTORY
20 May 2009
Max Boyce is over the moon following the news that his beloved rugby club, Glynneath RFC, has been given funding by the Sports Council for Wales.
The popular entertainer is overjoyed with the news that his club – of which he is president - and home town will benefit from a lottery grant of almost £15,000.
The club is now due to start work on improving the training pitch by introducing floodlights and better drainage.
Boyce - who has always lived Glynneath, just yards away from the rugby club - explains, "We are absolutely thrilled with this grant from the Sports Council. It was imperative for the club to improve the training area because by doing this, we’ll further enhance conditions and accommodate the junior and senior teams at the club."
The club currently boasts seven junior teams, a youth team and two senior sides. With the additional investment, they now aim to set up a new under 16s and senior female team as well as increase the number of coaches.
Any organisation looking to get more people, more active, more often is eligible to apply for SCW funding.
Chair of the Sports Council for Wales, Philip Carling, said:
"With the funding and support from the Welsh Assembly Government and the National Lottery, the Sports Council for Wales is helping to transform the sporting landscape in Wales. The considerable investment into community sport, facilities, equipment and coaches has impacted on communities throughout Wales."
