GWYNEDD - CYFEILLION CROESOR

From old farmhouse to fitness hub, Cyfellion Croesor’s renovation of Garth Llwynog has delivered a recreation hall in the heart of the Gwynedd village open to all.

Cyfellion Croesor hopes that the entire community will make the most of the redeveloped facility, not only for health and fitness sake but also to socialise. With opportunities to get active ever expanding, the hope is that the hall will become a hub of activity where residents can find out what works for them.

Netball and table tennis are now being offered at the hall following a successful Community Chest application. The £749 grant enabled Cyfellion to build up its stock of sporting equipment. Starting out with a table tennis table and netball basket, more equipment will be built up over time and more activities introduced.

The group is looking for a steady increase in membership, with a long term aim of providing training to members. By building self-esteem through participation in sport, it is also hoped that individuals will be encouraged to move outside the hall and take advantage of their local environment.

CONWY – LLANFAIRFECHAN COMMUNITY CENTRE

The Llanfairfechan Community Centre was successful in its application for additional funding needed to set up a four week Tai Chi taster course which is offered free of charge.

This was followed by an eight-week course to be subsidised by the participants and offered to older members of the community, the immobile and also people referred to the classes by the local health centre.

After the eight-week course, Llanfairfechan Community Centre planned to sustain the courses at minimal cost to participants
