CEREDIGION

When it comes to getting active, there’s something out there for everyone. But the tricky bit can be finding out exactly what it is you like.

Age Concern came to the rescue in Ceredigion by giving residents the chance to try out a range of activities. Leisure centres in Aberaeron, Lampeter and Llandysul laid on a series of taster sessions for its resident senior generation to help them find out what works for them.

The long list of activities were whittled down and the two favourites were introduced into the leisure centre programme. Funding from the Sports Council for Wales and Age Concern enabled both sessions to run for 15 weeks.

The success of the 15 week project has prompted Age Concern Cymru to consider taking their invitation county wide to encourage all of Ceredigion’s over 50’s to get more active.

CARMARTHENSHIRE

The senior ladies football club applied for funding to establish an under 14s girls team as they had no provision for juniors to cater for the demand.

A Community Chest grant of £750 was used to buy the equipment needed to establish the team and to send members on coach education courses to ensure development and sustainability.

After the success of the scheme, the club applied for a second grant to establish an under 12s girls side to complement the under 14s with an aim to enter both in the new U12s and U14s league.
